3C President Condemns DC Lawsuit Against Amazon

Washington, DC (May 25): Connected Commerce Council (3C) President Jake Ward today released a statement condemning the price-fixing lawsuit against Amazon filed by Washington, DC Attorney General Karl Racine.

“This lawsuit makes no sense. Millions of small businesses scale quickly and cost-efficiently by selling on Amazon and using Amazon’s platform services, such as Fulfilled by Amazon. The cost of those benefits — including fair-pricing agreements — are modest in comparison to their extraordinary value to sellers and the benefits that ultimately are enjoyed by consumers.

“It’s also notable that small business sellers have many options today. Target and Walmart offer robust marketplaces for third-party sellers and both have essentially the same pricing policies to ensure their platforms stay competitive.

“The innovative, disruptive, and highly competitive e-commerce industry has delivered enormous benefits to consumers and small businesses for nearly a quarter-century. Attacking one piece of a broadly successful ecosystem fails to account for the far greater benefits of Amazon’s platform and marketplace.”
