3C Responds to Decision in Google Search Remedies Case
WASHINGTON (September 2, 2025) — Connected Commerce Council Executive Director Rob Retzlaff released the following statement in response to the remedies Judge Amit P. Mehta imposed on Google in United States et al. v. Google. The remedies decision follows Judge Mehta’s ruling earlier this year that some of Google’s contracts with phone makers violated antitrust law.
“Judge Mehta’s decision shows an understanding of how misguided the Department of Justice’s proposed radical remedies were, and how wildly disproportionate they were to the problems identified in the earlier ruling.
“The fact that Judge Mehta acknowledged AI’s impact on consumer search shows that he also understood the dramatic, ongoing impact of innovation on market competition. While Google’s search engine remains popular, competition is robust and will continue to intensify.
“By rejecting the worst of the DOJ’s proposed remedies, including a Chrome divestiture, Judge Mehta put consumers and small businesses first.”
