3C Slams Sen. Lee Bill That Would Crush Small Business Online Advertising

Washington, DC (May 19, 2022): Rob Retzlaff, Connected Commerce Council (3C) Executive Director, today responded to Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) introduction of The Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act, legislation that will cause ad prices to rise, disproportionately hurting small businesses that use affordable digital ads to promote their business.

“Google’s affordable, easy-to-use digital advertising helps even the smallest businesses find customers, compete with bigger brands, and expand their markets beyond their local Main Street. All of this is possible because Google is a large, integrated company that puts its data to work for all competitors – not just the biggest brands with the biggest budgets. Separating Google Ads from Google simply because the company is too big for Sen. Lee’s liking ignores the tremendous value Google Ads – and today’s integrated Google services – provides small businesses.

“With our economy facing so many troubles, Sen. Lee and his colleagues should stop their big-is-bad political grandstanding and focus on things that matter to small businesses – inflation, gas prices, supply chain and COVID.”
