3C Statement Regarding DOJ Ad Tech Ruling
Statement from Connected Commerce Council Executive Director Rob Retzlaff in response to today’s ruling in the DOJ Google ad tech case:
3C and small business advertisers applaud Judge Brinkema for rejecting the DOJ’s radical proposal to break apart Google’s integrated display advertising stack.
Google powers affordable, effective advertising that helps small businesses find new customers and compete with companies with much larger marketing budgets. Breaking apart these tools would have increased costs for small businesses at a time when they can least afford it.
Rejecting a breakup was the right call, but the details of the remaining remedies still matter. The court should avoid replacing one radical remedy with restrictions that raise advertising costs, reduce effectiveness, or make it harder for small businesses to compete online.
