Statement From Connected Commerce Council President Ward on the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act
WASHINGTON (Dec. 15, 2020) – Connected Commerce Council (3C) President Jake Ward released the following statement responding to the European Commission’s introduction of the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act.
“On behalf of more than 1,000 European small business members of 3C, it seems that the European Commission does not appreciate digital platforms’ importance to small businesses, particularly during a pandemic. Every day, small businesses throughout Europe partner with leading digital platforms to find new customers, operate their businesses, and earn a living during the most challenging economy of our lives. The proposed regulations take aim at technology companies, but absent substantial amendment they will undoubtedly disrupt how digitally-powered small businesses conduct business during the current struggle, and will hinder small business recovery that we all hope will begin very soon.”
