3C Reacts to the DOJ’s Proposed Remedies in Google Search Case
WASHINGTON (Nov. 21, 2024): Connected Commerce Council (3C) Executive Director Rob Retzlaff today issued the following statement in response to the Department of Justice (DOJ)’s final proposed remedies in the United States v. Google LLC case. The remedies include forcing Google to sell its popular Chrome browser; share users’ search data with rivals; and separate its Android operating system from its Search and Play services.
“The DOJ’s proposed radical remedies deal a painful blow to millions of American small business owners who leverage Google’s cost-effective, integrated tools — including its advertising and search tools — to reach customers, grow their business, compete, and succeed.
“Forcibly altering how these tools operate imperils small businesses’ success by jeopardizing valuable digital advertising tools and marketing solutions. The DOJ’s failure to consider such obvious harmful consequences is deeply disturbing.
“These destructive and misguided measures won’t ‘remedy’ anything. Instead, they’ll punish the hard-working small business owners who keep our economy and communities thriving.”
