3C Responds After DOJ Rests its Case in Google Search Remedies Hearing
WASHINGTON (April 30, 2025) — Connected Commerce Council (3C) Executive Director Rob Retzlaff today issued a statement after the Department of Justice (DOJ) rested its case in the Google “search” antitrust trial remedies hearing.
“The DOJ’s radical proposed remedies are wildly out of proportion with the contractual issues identified by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta — and would badly hurt consumers, small businesses, and U.S. tech leadership.
“The DOJ has yet to produce any evidence that Google’s actions harmed consumers. Ironically, its proposed remedies — forcing Google to sell its Chrome browser, share consumer search data with competitors, curb its use of AI, and encourage people to use competitors’ inferior products — would do exactly that.
“The DOJ has also refused to consider the devastating consequences of its proposed ‘remedies’ for the millions of small businesses that rely on Google’s secure, integrated family of tools to find customers, grow, and succeed.
“Breaking up Google — as the DOJ has suggested — means breaking the valuable digital tools that millions of people and small businesses trust and rely on every day.”
