Statement from 3C Executive Director Rob Retzlaff in Support of the SECURE Data Act
The Connected Commerce Council released the following statement from Executive Director Rob Retzlaff regarding the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s introduction of the Securing and Establishing Consumer Uniform Rights and Enforcement (SECURE) over Data Act.
“The SECURE Data Act is a welcome introduction to the millions of digitally-empowered small businesses that use data-driven tools to find new customers, run their business, and make money.
“For years, small businesses have been asking Congress to create a national data privacy framework that ends the patchwork of state privacy laws and respects the critical role data plays in the digital economy. The cost and complexity of tracking and complying with more than 20 state privacy laws are crippling small businesses, and some states’ radical data restrictions are jeopardizing the digital tools that power small business growth.
“Too often, small businesses are the collateral damage in partisan battles. 3C calls on members of both parties to rally behind this common-sense framework that small businesses need and pass the SECURE Data Act quickly.”
