The Connected Commerce Council Stands With Florida Small Businesses Against Burdensome Data Privacy Bills
February 25, 2022 (Washington, DC): Connected Commerce Council (3C) Executive Director Rob Retzlaff released the following statement regarding Florida HB 9 and SB 1864, data privacy legislation is intended to burden small business partners that provide affordable and effective targeted advertising services:
“All businesses should treat consumers’ personal information with respect. But Florida’s proposed privacy legislation would create significant burdens on companies that provide affordable and critical targeted advertising support to millions of small businesses. Digital targeted advertising is one of the most important tools of modern small business success.”
“Though the bill attempts to limit its impacts to larger companies, it glosses over the reality that those companies, and particularly their data-driven targeted advertising services, power small business growth and success. Needless and costly regulatory burdens on Google, Facebook and other advertising partners will increase the cost and diminish the value and effectiveness of digital targeted advertising. This directly hurts small businesses.”
