August Advocacy: Stories of Small Business Empowerment

August was a busy month for small business advocacy. From lawmakers visiting their local small businesses to meetings in state capitals, small business leaders have made their voices heard nationwide this summer as part of our #SummerofSmallBizAdvocacy. We want to thank these small business leaders for their advocacy efforts, and we’re thrilled to share some of their highlights from the last month.

Although summer may be coming to an end, advocacy doesn’t have to stop there. That’s why at 3C, we’re #AllAboutAdvocacy – all year long. Your voice matters in policy discussions, and it’s never too late to make it heard. Our Advocacy Toolkit will help empower you to connect with your lawmakers, local community, and more – no matter what time of year it is.

Congressman Bill Johnson Visits Scaffidi’s in Steubenville, OH 🍝

Nino Scaffidi, Rep. Bill Johnson, Dawn Scaffidi, and Frankie DiCarlantonio

3C Small Business Advisory Board Member Frankie DiCarlantonio, the CEO of Scaffidi’s Restaurant Group, welcomed Congressman Bill Johnson (OH-06) and staff to his restaurant in Steubenville, Ohio, to discuss the challenges facing small businesses. Scaffidi’s recently expanded their reach and now ships frozen pasta products nationwide. Expanding beyond the Steubenville market creates real concerns about potentially navigating 50 different state privacy laws. That’s why small business leaders like Frankie are urging Congress to pass a national privacy law that not only safeguards consumers but also equips small businesses with the necessary data to cultivate a thriving digital economy.

Check out what Rep. Johnson and Frankie had to say about their meeting here!

Small Seller Press Conference 🎤

Will Haire of BellaVix, Joel Roodman of Logic Products, and Evans Richards of reVend

During a 3C virtual press conference, Will Haire (Co-Founder & CEO of BellaVix), Joel Roodman (Managing Partner of Logic Products), and Evans Richards (CEO of reVend) shared how they use Amazon Marketplace to grow and succeed – and the damage that could be done by the FTC’s pending lawsuit against the online marketplace.

“Disrupting the Amazon Marketplace takes away opportunities from entrepreneurs to pursue their passion and deliver good products to consumers,” said Haire, “Most Amazon sellers are small businesses, so what would it look like if they had to expedite shipping? The end consumer is going to pay more.” For a roundup of small sellers’ comments and concerns on what they had to say, click here.

3C on the Issues:

Breaking Prime 🛒

Amazon has been a game-changer for small businesses, providing them access to a global audience and the opportunity to thrive in the e-commerce industry. Despite these advantages, the FTC seems determined to break up Amazon and risk harming hundreds of thousands of small businesses that use the Amazon store to find customers and make money.
